If you installed Windows XP on a 2 GB Hard drive, it's a wonder it will boot
at all.
A Clean install of Windows XP can take from 1 to 1.5 GB, then add a swap
file, a sizeable piece of space for system restore, and a piece of HDD equal
to installed RAM for Hibernation.
2GB is simply not enough for Windows XP. Minimum drive size should be 10GB.

NoNo:

Although you and I both disagree with Microsoft's assessment, the official
Microsoft minimum requirement for Windows XP is: 1.5 gigabytes (GB)
of available hard disk space*

Read all about it here:

Bluehawk,

Try this,

How to disable 'Windows File Protection' (WFP)

-open Regedit

-navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

- double-click REG_DWORD key 'SFCDisable'

-check 'Hexidecimal' > type FFFFFF9D, click OK

-Exit Regedit

Drew
Thanks I tried that but its still the same should i change regedit back?

It seems on start up the hard drive is moving around the same as if its
being reformated it seems to be checking itself on start up.
The screen is fully black with white lines at base that fill up during this
time (before windows starts)

once its on the computer works fine and no errors come up

any ideas
many thanks
