Can I run a 266 FSB Athlon XP or Duron on VIA KT133

I am currently using a gigabyte GA-7ZX (Rev 5.0)
motherboard with a Duron 1200 (12*100)CPU.
This motherboard is using VIA KT133 chip which only supports 200 FSB CPU. I want to replace my current CPU with a new 266 FSB Athlon or Duron, or Athlon XP even...
I was just wondering if it's possible to swicth the jumper on the motherboard to overclock the system clock to 133 to make it work with the new CPU?
Or I will have to upgrade the motherboard and the memory as well?

I'm using:
Gigabyte GA-7ZX (Rev 5.0)
Duron 1200 Mhz 200FSB (Morgon Core)
256Mb 133Mhz SDRAM

I am not that desperate to upgrade my PC yet.
I was only wondering if it will works.
I think I'll stick with my current hardware for the moment.
I wish I can change the multiplier, but there is no such option in the BIOS nor the jumper can allow me to do this.
So all I can work on is the system clock.
I've tried to overclock before using my current 200 FSB Duron. But I can only push the CPU to 1296Mhz (108*12),and I might as well just for get it, you know.

It'll probably work, but at reduced speed. If you were running a 600Mhz Athlon then it might be worth an upgrade, but I don't think there's much point in just upgrading your CPU on a KT133 mobo.

It's unlikely your chipset will cope with 133FSB.. Possibly ~112, which would give you ~1.17Ghz out of a 1.4Ghz 266FSB Duron, or 1.4Ghz out of an XP2000+ (should be 1666) because any further would push your PCI bus too far out of spec.

You'd probably get more performance increase out of swapping out your Mobo & RAM and keeping the duron than the other way around.. Although that would cost more of course.

What sort of budget do you have?

Yes it's possible. You are limited to 100 Mhz (200) bus speed but often you can run the CPU at full speed. For some motherboards it takes a bit of work.

I installed a Tbred B XP1700+ (mod'd to XP2400+) into a Abit KT7 (non A) which is a KT133 mobo. The chip booted at 20 x 100 = 2000 Mhz which is true XP2400+ speed but with only 100 Mhz FSB. I only used it for a day because I was just testing.

I seem to recall people having trouble doing this with the Gigabyte KT133 boards but I don't recall the details.

Wes runs an XP2400+ with NO MODS and at 2.4 Ghz (~XP3400+ speed) on his KT7.
