Purple screen crash

Hey guys, I have a problem... Way back when i bought my PC I had problems with purple screen crashes.

I had a Asus striker 2 extreme motherboard, 2x geforce gtx 9800, 4 gigs corsair ram and 2x WD 500 gig, can't remember which CPU :p .

Then I changed my motherboard to Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M, CPU I5-2500k 3.3Ghz, Geforce GTX 580, 8 gigs kingston ram.

But.... It still crashes with purple screen :S:S What in the world!!!
I've more or less completely changed my system but my problem won't go away. I even changed DVD...

The only 3 things left are: My cabinet, HDD's and powersupply.

Here comes the weird thing... it's only in certin games it crashes, fx: Might & Magic heroes 6 does it within a few minutes everytime. A few other titles have the same problem. But only some games...

My logic tells me, if it's a HDD, Powersupply or cabinet problem it woulden't make a difference which game i'am playing.

It's like a ghost problem just staying there :S

Anyone have any idear what it is? :)

It can't be the system either, I used to run vista, now i got windows 7.
Also i've had the problem for 4 years when i build my PC so it can't be drivers etiher. As i said almost all hardware has been changed... :o

Ohh and just for the sake of it... I've changed my mouse, keyboard, sound system and monitor during those 4 years too...

recently I had a similar issue with gtx550ti when I updated to 296.10 drivers when I rolled back it had sorted the problem.

Yea, I've read alot saying that. But the thing is, the problem has been with me for 4 years. I built a system for my brother identical to mine back then. He never had those problems... I built a similer system but updated to my father and girlriend about 2 years ago and none had those problems. My girlfriend even still runs 2x 9800 GTX with no problems, when i had 2x GTX 9800 i had so many pruple screen crashes. It's like the problem follows me no matter which drivers, OS or hardware i use... while 5 other PC's in the household haven't seen 1 purple screen crash ever.

Which drivers did you roll back to? I'll give it a try :)

I've rolled backwards...

275.33 will leave me with crash to desktop telling me the games stop working and video drivers deactivated.

280.26 and new drivers leaves my whole PC frozen with a purple screen.

266.58 are the most stable drivers, i'am able to play about 20 minutes before crash and not only less then 5 mins. It crashes with a black screen, so i can alt-tab out of game close it down and start it up again.

So currently theres NO funcktioning drivers for my Nvidia GTX 580 card. Thankfully diablo 3 seems to run with no problems at all, I could swear they had tailored their drivers to work with that game since it's a huge hit and they are releasing the new 680 card with that game simultaneously. lol :)

At least i'am looking forward to use my new card with that game :D

sorry about the late reply it was 280.26 that I rolled back to.

As for the persistent problem your having the only component I could blame is the PSU since its one of the components from your previous build, I would suggest trying a different power lead or even a different power outlet just to rule out in problems with grounding/earth.
