im looking at both these computers and was wondering if the 17" was worth getting over the 16" i would have to spend a little more for it and would not get windows 7. Would the cpu and ram make a big difference?

They're quite close in value. I assume you want this for gaming, seeing as you're looking at a 260M. Here's the tradeoff: The 17" gives you that extra inch of viewing space at 1440 x 900, which is higher than the 16" 1366 x 768. However, in more demanding games you will get better framerates on the 16" screen. Also, the 16" is 1.5 lbs lighter, which is significant.

In terms of cpu performance, the processors aren't that far apart (both penryn based dual cores, one is just clocked higher) and it is important to note that your gaming experience will largely depend on your graphics card, not your CPU. 4GB of RAM is plenty, and will be good for gaming. Finally, Windows 7 > Vista.

In my opinion, this makes the 16" a more attractive laptop for mobile gaming.
