Hey all. I've been getting a weird error in scandisk that says something to the effect that it can't continue running scandisk because there isn't enough memory. However, i have no programs running (i disabled norton antivirus, and closed kazaa). I have cacheman running and it says i have over 100 mb free memory, and my hd has over 5 gb free. I have tried running scandisk in msdos mode, but it says i have an invalid directory and i'll leave it for a long time to fix the problem, but when i come back its still on 99% for the files system (i believe). When i hit exit, it gave me a gigantic number of invalid directories (over 200,000). SO i'm a bit lost as to what is going on. I've already checked out microsoft's help sections. The only one that seemed to be of any help was that i have an incorrect number set for my fat32 cluster size and that i would have to reformat, which is an extreme solution and i don't feel like doing it. Any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks for the input.

You might find some help on these pages:

<A HREF="http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/scandisk.html" target="_new">TROUBLESHOOTING SCANDISK PROBLEMS</A>

<A HREF="http://support.wdc.com/tips/index.asp?tip=41" target="_new">ScanDisk - 'Out of Memory' Error - Copying</A>

ScanDisk can't run because of the amount of invalid directories that are being listed, as the limitation with this utility is that it can scan a maximum number of files and folders (52,416), and no more. And that's a theoretical number ... the actual number could be lower.

I suspect that you are looking at a re-format.
