Right now I'm looking at a system in an ad for $569CDN, about $400US:
AMD 2500+
512MB DDR400
80GB 7200RPM 8MB HD
350 watt Enermax P/S, sturdy case
ASUS A7N8X
ATI 9200 128MB
Onboard sound
LG 52x32x52 CDRW
Basic 2.1 Speakers
MS Keyboard and Optical mouse
Now I'll probably ask them to upgrade the video card to a 9600 Pro, so that'll bring the price up to $700CDN, and probably upgrade the mobo to the deluxe version for about $30 more. So about $730CDN or about $500 US. Sound good, any suggestions?

That sounds like a good system for the price (very good). If you wish to up the FSB in the Bios to 200 (something that comp should handel very easy) You would have an xp3200+ system. Not bad for the price.

Not sure what your using the comp for but if it's gaming get the 9600 pro or better yet hunt around and get the 9600xt it will include Halflife2 and it's a little faster than the pro. Make sure to get 2 sticks of ram 2 x 256 to enable dual chanel.

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Sounds very reasonable and good system.

If you plan to play latest games, ask about a 9800NP. Currently there is an offer for $200. That is not a big difference from 9600 Pro ($150 best price I can find), and its much more powerfull.

Anyways, great system!

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

Definetly go up to the deluxe version of the motherboard for $30.

It'll open up a few more upgrade possibilities in the future, although you probally won't need them for sometime. The system looks pretty good mano.

Yeah, I'm kinda unsure about a 9600 pro nowadays specially for games like HL2. I was thinking about a 9800NP but I'm finding that supply is drying up. But I'll definitely ask the retailer, thx. Also kinda confused, is the performance difference between 9600 Pro, AIW 9600 Pro (higher clock speed then 9600 pro i hear), and 9600XT. thanks
