So I am looking to buy a new laptop. Primarily for college, however I intend to also play some games on it as well and watching Blurays. The games I play are MW, MW2, BF2, BF Heros, FSX, World In Conflict, Civ 4 and other random older stuff that isn't intensive at all. I generally rarely get new games (I don't even know what the most intensive game is right now in terms of strain on the CPU and GPU), but I will continue to get the new COD and maybe a few RTS's. The Specs of the laptop that I am looking at are the following,
Studio XPS 16
Windows 7 Ultimate
8GB DDR3 @1333mhz
ATI HD 4650
So my main question is, how will my current games play overall on the system? I enjoy having high quality settings, however they aren't necessary. All I need is medium to high, with a good fps and I am fine. And second, what will the longevity of the notebook in terms of future games?
I'd say that it will do very well in regard to games, even though the 4650 may be a bit of a bottleneck. The CPU itself should last you a quite awhile in regard to future games. Check out these links to get an idea of what kind of performance to expect from the GPU and CPU:
