PC Speakers Stopped Working

One of our pc's speakers suddenly stopped working. The speaker set itself seemed to turn on and I even tested another pair and still no sound. I checked the volume control and everything is turned up that should be and nothing is muted. I was wandering what else I could check to try and fix this problem, thanks.

a bad cable between the speakers and computer
a broken solder connection on the motherboard audio jack.
Try plugging the speakers into the front panel headphone jack instead and see if the channel comes back.
