Neighbor has a dell 4300 desktop setup. This is the 1.6Ghz P4 with the
slow sdram motherboard.

Does dropping in a faster cpu help or is this system terminally slow ?

Doubt the faster cpu's would be worth their cost.

Any opinions ?

The biggest problem with the 4300 is that it uses SDRAM, which you cannot
change short of replacing the board with a newer one from a 4500, 4550,
8300, etc.

A faster CPU will help - so might a system tuneup (spyware scan, defrag,
etc.). You can use only 400 MHz bus P4s or Celerons on that system.
