I have a cheap (in price) laptop I bought a while back, an eMachines E625 and my HDD took a turn for the worse. I have been religious on backing it up on a regular basis. It has a 250GB drive and was hoping to install a larger one. This has been a good laptop for me and exceeded my expectations - I'd like to keep using it. But, not having this ever happen before and very little experience, I don't even know where to start. I have Vista Home Basic on it - not crazy about it. Have I lost my OS or will it restore? HELP! Where do I begin? Thanks in advance. (I love this site-I've learned a lot from it)
well, the problem may be more serious than it looks. If your hard drive had suffered a major failure (electrical, mechanical or simply bad product) then there is not much you can do. My advice to you: buy a new hard drive (samsung or western digitall) and just for safety buy an external hard drive for your important data and backup. Good luck!
I knew it wasn't good news. I've backed it up on a Samsung Story 1.5TB external hard drive. I was looking at a Samsung replacement. I was hoping these backups would help me out, otherwise what good are they. It may be a blessing in disguise. I'm not crazy about Vista so maybe it's time to move on.
Well, you should like vista. I use vista ultimate on my laptop and works like a charm. Or at least you should try 7. The only thing that the backups do is restore the system if you get malfunctions, or BSODs all the time, or the system just won't respond. If your problem is the hard drive, get a new one, and then restore on it the backup. And is will look like nothing had happened.
