Hello all,

Randomly my old, tired laptop will just fade to white. Everything still
functions, I just can't see the screen. If I close the lid and wait a
few minutes I can usually get it back w/o rebooting but sometimes it
fights me and stays white until I reboot.

I am on a very tight budget and am trying to keep this old horse alive.

Any advice?

Thanks,
R

You did not state if you are using the battery or on AC current???
If you are on battery, that may need replacing. If you are on AC
(wall outlet) your contrast or resolution may need adjusting or your
entire screen module needs to be repaired or replaced. One more
possibility is your video-card, it could also be the culprit.

Could be the video chip or the screen, neither of which is going to be an
inexpensive fix. Try hooking the laptop up to a regular monitor and see what
happens. If that doesn't go white, then it's an issue with the screen. If it
does go white, then you're looking at the video chip.

Or, you might get lucky -- try updating the video driver. I doubt that's it,
but it's a cheap and harmless fix.

Or, it could be that the video chip is overheating. Dust and crud could be
blocking airflow and causing it to overheat.

Thanks, I'll try the cheapest fixes first, of course.

Oh, it happens on both AC and battery.

Appreciate the info,
R
