Computer running XPpro, SP2, all updates. Frequently shuts
down/restarts with the serious error message appearing. Microsoft
indicates driver issue. Virus scans indicate clean, as well as spyware
is OK (microsoft and spybot). Am considering reformatting and doing a
clean install -- but if driver issue am afraid will still be a problem.
Suggestions? Thanks.

If you are getting a blue screen, take note of the stop error. You can check
this site to help you sort out the issue:

You may run "sigverif" to check for any unsigned drivers.

Check in the Event viewer.

Also, you need to turn off the "automatic restarts" in the Advanced System
Properties. This may give you a "blue screen" with info on which possible
driver may be causing your problem.
