I have a computer with Windows xp already loaded on it and when I try to get
additional software from the download centre I am asked to check for
authentication , this fails, how do I overcome this problem.
I am a pensioner new to this modern technology

Hi Bryan,
Where did you get the PC from to have XP already loaded. If it was a
retail outlet (PCWorld/local vendor etc) then you need to contact them.
If it was from an individual who had loaded XP for you then it's more
than likely an illegal installation.
If the latter you would need to purchase a full retail copy of XP or
question them on the copy of XP you have.

he Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation check process
does not complete when you try to validate your copy of Windows XP
or Windows 2000 Professional

Is it just my eyes, or does "Method 3" there consist only of
boilerplate security warnings with no actual steps to resolve the
problem? :)

It certainly appears incomplete, at the very least. One would assume the
MIA method would include temporarily disabling anti-virus and/or third-party
firewall, in case either or both may be interfering.
