In general, it's better to declare environment variables under
Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Environment variables
(button). Add the system variable "devmgr_show_details" (value '1')
and you will see that this works for you. Also, declaring the system
variable "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" (value '1') makes sense.

What it means is OK to the idea of making the environemt varible permanent
rather then as the KB article says to do. Of course if you are wanting in
the English language I can understand your confusion. Sorry.
