my computer boots up and everything but when windows is starting and the blue screen when ur supposed to log on is about to come up on my monitor the computer restart by itself. i put everything in bios to default settings and it still does it. im not sure what it is cpu or psu?help plz!!

abit is7-e default settings bios
p4 2.6c
512 mb 3200ddr

i dont think its the cpu, sounds more like a software issue, but you need to provide more details about it, have you recently upgraded/added hardware or software/drivers, etc....could be a memory issue or a psu issue....what kind of psu do you have, what wattage?

a month ago i changed from intel 850gb with 256 mb rimm ram and p4 1.3 willematte and ati radeon 9000pro to abit is7-e p4 2.6 northwood 512 mb pc3200 ddr and xfx geforce fx 5900 i didnt perform clean installation of win xp i just repaired the installation. but i really think is my psu 300w 2yrs old and i was running my p2.6 on 3.3 ghz 260fsb... 1.75 vcore ddr on 2.7v agp on 2.6v and i have dvd rom burner and hard drive hooked up. i'll try my bro's psu...

Before the POST (the beep at start) the BIOS handles everything concerning the computer, then, at POST the CPU starts working. No way you would get till a graphic Windows screen with a bad CPU.

Most probably the PSU will cause you problems but before checking that, a clean installation is a must when installing a new mobo. Your problem will probably be solved if you only format the HDD and re-install Windows. After that, if you have any stability issues while gaming for example, then most probably the cause of your problems will be the PSU.

man u guys realy helped man i was worried that i killed it lol. i was running it on 3.53 but with 5:4 cpu/memory ghz 1.75vcore with vantec aeroflow :-D. and it didnt freeze or anything i clocked on 3.3ghz and i ran 3d mark 03 than i rebooted and than it started rebooting in startup...

I NEED WATER COOLING!!!!

i ll stick on 1.7v i dont wanna kill my cpu. i really newb in clocking p4 northwood i got it like month ago. and this forum is awesome ur guys are really helpful...

btw: i'm using 300w 2yrs old psu i really need a new one
