Hi

I previously had a Dell laptop which had an IEEE1394 connector, which I used to transfer films on my camcorder to the laptop. The camcorder also has the same IEEE1394 connector, although on the camcorder it is called a DV outlet.

My problem is that I have recently bought a new Dell N5010 laptop and this does not have the IEEE1394 connector, but it does have the following, in addition to the usual USB connectors
. HDMI connector
. VGA connector

Can I connect the camcorder to either of the above. or even to the usb, although I would first have to be able to find a cable with the IEEE1394 on one end and what ever is needed to connect to the laptop on the other end

You can get one of these http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=express+card+firewire+adapter&aq=1&aqi=g6g-m4&aql=&oq=express+card+fire&gs_rfai=

From the pictures I see of your laptop, it does have a express card slot (please veryfy before you rush out and buy an adpater :) ).
