My motor will turn enough to actually twist and rip the wires under the
motor post. The motor is fully fuctional and the game works. I did a
switch test and the optos work fine but when I do a trunk test I get
error messages but the trunk does in fact function. Any idea?

Stripped gears inside the motor would be my guess. I could be wrong, though.
Can't repair it, you have to replace the assembly.

Best regards,

I had the same problem. It was not the motor or gear box. There is a
stop pin on a collar which is held to the trunk shaft with an allen
screw. This pin prevents the motor from continuing to turn too far in
either direction. If the allen screw comes loose, the trunk will turn
continuously in the same direction and eventually twist the wires off.
The good news is it's a no-cost fix. The bad news is you have to
disassemble and remove the whole trunk motor set up to get to it. Good
luck,

Mike

Mike,

Did you have any error messages in the trunk test?

The opto interupter, if the allen set screwed is over tightened holding it
to the shaft, it cracks the plastic easily. Easy to see, if cracked this may
be slipping and your trunk doesn't always know for sure where it is. LTG :)

Yes, I had error messages, I forget what they were exactly. I'm pretty
sure all four opto errors were lit. The key here is the twisted wires.
The trunk should only turn half way right or half way left. That way
the wires won't get twisted. If the stop pin comes loose the shaft
spins around inside it and turns continuously in one direction until
the wires break off. I also had to fabricate a new wire harness
because mine snapped off. It took me a long time to figure it out, but
after getting a price of $330.00 for a new gearbox and motor I felt
pretty lucky it was only a minor problem. If your wires are twisted
This is most likely your problem.
