You have a celeron in there....Bad, Bad Idea.

Replace it for a cheap P4 or A cheap AXP.

But for games, graphics card are more importent.

Hope this helps

Depends how you define "Today's Games".

If you mean doom3, hl2, and current engine games like mmporpgs. No.

If you mean starcraft, diablo2, neverwinter nights, etc... Yes.

Edit: the list of problems with that setup (if you don't have those just lying around) is: Crap processor, almost any amd is faster and cheaper, a crap via board, and a crap video card.

AVOID Celeron at all cost!
Try to get something better than MX440 to play today's games at good FPS.

But what kind of games? If your uncle play Action/Shooter he will not like you to have bought him a Celery with an MX440, but if he only play The Sims... It will probably be enough.

But please, don't buy him a Celeron, it's the worst CPU on the market.

1-Athlon XP 2200+ £50
2-Abit KD7-A KT400A £47
3-Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 80GB 8MB Cache £54
4-256MB DDR PC2700 £27
5-Sapphire ATI Radeon 9200 64MB £49

Total = £227 w/o case and PSU

Sorry Im from good old england so i have no idea how much that is in $, but everything is more expensive over here (damn the strong £) so it will prob come to about the same ammount.

I think that's a reasonably good setup for gaming at 800x600 resolution. If your Uncle isn't an expert on using computers, then Intel brand would be good choice because it's reliable and bug free.

i've had 3 AMD systems(1.2,1.4, 2000+ athlon) before in the past and they all gave me huge problems although they gave me good performance and are cheap. Small teething problems, i had to fix then finally i got a P4 and never looked back. 100% reliable and bug free.

AMD is reliable and currently bug free, too. And in the low-end segment, they are a hell of a lot faster (relative to price).

I can only say you were unlucky, I support many AMD sytems (some are highly overclocked) and I never had major issue with them. They are all based ON good motherboard and RAM with up-to-date drivers.

I must too, that I never had problems with my Intel systems too! Gone are the days of CRAPPY AMD boards/chipsets!

You got unlucky, I had a 1GHz Athlon running perfectly until the proprietary 155W IBM PSU crapped out (finally found the cause by connecting my unused 420W to it [eventhough it doesn't fit in the case] and it ran fine for days [then I went to school and turned it off]).

Anwyay, what I'm trying to say is when built well, AMD systems are just as reliable as Intel systems.
