I have a folder on my C drive that has 24,000 files in it.

When I try to copy the folder to my external hard drive, it copies only the
forst 18,000 files. When I try to copy the remaining files I get a message
saying that "the file or folder cannot be created".

Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks in advance.

NTFS or FAT32? Convert your external HD partition into NTFS if you have not done yet. You can use the Convert.exe command to do this.

FAT32 has a limit of 65,534 files or subfolders within a folder. (This number could be reduced if long file names are used, maybe it is your case.)
