Akai mg1214 earth hum, can you give me any idea what might be causing this?

Hi Guys,
A friend of mine has an Akai MG 1214 recorder and apparently it has developed an earth hum that he cant seem to source, can you suggest any line of action to stop this.

It sounds like a ground loop problem. usually that is solved by using a 2 prong adapter for the 3 prong plug. Don't buy the 2 prong adapter with the green wire, you don't need it.

Disconnect Cable TV entirely, does the hum go away?
