After being delighted in discovering that the athlon 64 3000+ cpu that i thought was defective is not, I have run into another problem. Upon boot, once the hardware has been checked, the hard drive just randomly spins down and then back up again. During the windows xp install I get a blue screen randomly and the computer freezes. I have no idea why this is happening. I have a wd 250gb hard drive and it is set to master and is connected to the primary ide channel on the motherboard.

specs:
antec true blue 480 watt
mushkin pc3500 1gb
ati radeon 9800pro

Could you have attached the HD to one of those fan only antec power leads? If not try changing the HD power lead.

Dichromatic for your viewing plesure...

You once again gave the right advice, although lostcircuits gave me the idea of what exactly to lower. The memory won't run at trcd 2 for some reason. Everything runs fine when I set it to 3.

I had the same problem with mushkin pc3500 level 2 memory on my A64. I could only use the system with it running at 166 mhz. I kept getting blue screens or missing file during windows installation.

I replaced it with corsair memory and everything is fine and at the correct speed.
