There seem to be utilities for creating custom ROM (such as romeo) for
older devices running PalmOS 4. However, I haven't found mention of
performing this procedure on a newer device (Zire 72 in my case).
Does anyone know wheter this is possible and is there software to do it?
There's quite a bit of silly junk in the ROM that could be replaced
by more useful stuff.

In general, only the higher priced Palm models have been flash upgradable.
The Zires are considered consumer class, and do not have this ability -- the
OS is on a static ROM.

Yes, I figured this out a few minutes after posting; should've though of that
before, but it didn't occur to me that someone would still be shipping these
kinds of devices with something else than flash ROM these days (-:

Although, I haven't heard of ROM's being available for the more expensive
devices either. It used to be Palm/PalmSource that distributed these prior
to OS 5 as they were needed for the Palm Emulator. Nowadays, OS 5 is just
recompiled to run on a Windows machine (ie a simulator vs. an emulator), so
ROM's aren't really available.
