Hi

My 10 yearold needs a better pc. She now has a vintage Digital Celebris XL-133 with a overdrive K6-2 400 proc.

I found a box with a p3-751, 256 ram, rage 2 vid (16meg ?), snd card, 8 gig hd and winXP installed for 250$ CAD

But i also have lying around at home a Duron 750 cpu, tnt 2 agp (16meg?), and 2 X 128 sdram, and a new cheapo case, a 2.1 gig hd

Any suggestions. Is the p3-751 stronger than the 750 duron?

peace
dany

I'd say the performance difference between these two is minimal they both as a system have advantages and disadvantages. Biggest disavantage is that weeny hardrive in your duron but it has a slightly better vid card. Biggest disadavantage with the p3 is $250 and slower vid. but comes with a bigger harddrive and xp.

I think id get a cheap but better harddrive for the duron system.

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

p3 751? you mean 750? Honestly i think both will perform about the same...both should have a good deal of overclocking potential too.

The Duron @ 750 Will be a faster system.
Get a better HD.

They are both about the same. initially i was thinking the duron has more performance potential beccause of overclocking, but then the instability factor kicked in. the Intel P3-751mhz should be a solid system.

Both will perform nearly equal in most apps. In FPU intensive apps, Duron will perform better and in SSE optimized apps, P3 will perform little better.

The Duron CPU has far more overclocking potential as the multiplier can be unlocked. With a good heatsink and fan you ought to be able to get at least an extra 100Mhz out of it without sacrificing the rest of your systems stability.

the piii will easily hit 933mhz...i think it has fine overclocking potential...

Thanks guys

I did pick up the P-3. Guess what? That ATI rage card was a 2meg pci...lol. Bastards..lol. But i didn't cheak first and just "took it for granded" that it would be an AGP with at least 16meg on it.

Anyway they gave me a hacked copy of WinXP Pro so just that made up for the card thing.

Now there's nothing marked on the CD drive and i jokes with the guy that it wasn't an 8x and he said he didn't know...Bastard..lol.Proly is a 4x...lol..I haven't tested it's transfer rate. It's a Samsung SCR-3232.

The mobo is a GVXC7-4X. I checked at Gigabyte.com but couldn't find it. I indeed was wondering if i should dish out the moulas for a decent vid card and maybe even DVD drive.

It seems very stable as is. I'm connected to the net via a wireless nic and hub downstairs.

That 6gig hd is also too small. I've only installed RA2, Tiger Woods and a few others and i now only have 2.8gig left.

Anyone know about the mobo? GVXC7-4x

Dear Wusy! Opps!

Looked like a G but is rather a 6...so it's a 6VXC7-4X. Is that the cheapos of cheapos?

Another thing. The bios states the hd ar 8455meg but XP states it at 6.28gig.?

Thanks for the link.
Was looking at this ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9000Pro 64mb to add to my sys. How is the tuner reception on that card? And do you think a P3-750 is sufficient to take advantage of that chip?
