My newly built PC is already annoying me with loud CPU fan (Dell all over again). I checked the PC will all fans but one turned off and checked the loudness of each fan. CPU fan by far is the worst. Is there any hope? PC is just hours old. Following are the temp readings.

CPU Warning Temp 85c/185F
System 36c/96F
CPU Temp 63C/145F
PWM Temp 39C/104F

CPU Fan Speed 2636 RPM
NB Fan 6026 RPM

Can the CPU fan speed be decreased? Is there a limit on how high CPU temp can be? Thanks.

your motherboard has the fan speeds backwards

the NorthBridge fan should NOT be 6000rpm (lmfao @ that)...

and if your CPU fan is only at 2000rpm and still loud, then its not a problem with RPM, its an unbalanced shitty fan.

lookup the Aeroflow heatsink. prolly one of the best you can get and its dirt cheap

The zalman "fan mate 1" will allow you to turn down the rpms on your current heatsink fan. They run about $5-7. I run my p4 at 2500. I would run amd at 3000-3500, and see how much the temperature rises. It shouldn't rise more than 3-4 degrees celcius.

My mobo and CPU are:

Abit IS7
2.6c 800FSB

Obvioulsy the fan is stock fan that came with the CPU. There is no way to slow down the CPU fan in Bios or something?

The newer Intel stock heatsinks are louder than the older ones. The fan mate 1 is the most economical solution I know of, unless someone else knows of some software that will control fan rpms. I got my stock heatsink refurbished at newegg for $5 shipped. They might have some of the older models that are quieter, or search pricewatch.
