I'll be taking out my bro's 8GB pos HDD and putting in a 120GB in its place (donated kindly from one of my 4 hard drives). Now, he has windows and all this stuff instaleld on the 8gb....if I just do a copy paste will that work?

Copy/paste WON'T work. There are various utilities that can help you with that though, such as Norton Ghost, Powerquest Drive Copy, Powerquest Drive Image and even Powerquest Partition Magic, where you can simply copy the desired partition from the source to the destination drive.

Maxtor Maxblast works well for copying a partition and resizing it to fit the new drive.
