I have just added a new Dell Inspiron 2200 to my home wired network. Three
of the other computers are running XP Home (as is the new 2200) and two are
running 98 SE. Until now adding another XP computer to the LAN has been
like falling off a log! Run the wizard, setting up the workgroup name etc.,
set up files and folders to share, and presto - it works! The new Dell
however refuses to comply. It has no trouble accessing the net via the DSL
modem that is also attached to the switch but it will not access the other
computers nor will they access the 2200. However! The other XP computers
do at least "see" the 2200 listed under the workgroup but are unable to see
the shared files and folders. If I attempt to open the 2200 I get an error
" \\DELL2200 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. The network path is not found."

I tried the modifications as outlined in KB 318030 but still no joy. The
browser service was already started (but I stopped and restarted it to be
sure) and the TCP/IP was configured the same as the other computers on the
system to use NetBIOS setting = Default. I changed this to "Enable NetBIOS
over TCP/IP" as instructed in the article.

I have run out of ideas! Any help would be appreciated!

Brad
