Will my ASUS P4P800 support Prescott?

When I built my system this summer, the belief was that it would most likely support the Prescott. Does anyone know if it will? I have been out of the loop, so I am unaware of any new info. Thanks.

When Asus introduced the board they put on their website that it WOULD support the Prescott. If you find the Prescott non-working, you can return the board to Asus for RMA because you bought it under that premise.

Does it really matter? The faster Prescott that will be released for S478 will probably be the 3.4GHz or at the best case scenario the 3.6GHz.

But I am willing to bet they will be at least enabled in the Xeon versions.

But can they afford to loose that kind of market share to the Opteron at the same time. Thats where it gets really complicated.

Opterons are not taking any of that market share. where do you guys come up with this stuff?

They dont even have windows based x86-64 OS yet.

I do not think your rev will support Prescott.

Yep he is I think if ASUS made a claim and then the thing dont fly he should be able to return it in fact tot he retailer that sold him the MoB.

He could also load in Aida32 and see exactly what version it says the board is at. Just for kicks

Good advice, Crash, I'll keep that in mind. I'll wait and see how the performance/prices are for the Prescotts when they come out.

I think you have to have a market share to take before you take it away. So I guess you're right AMD isn’t taking nothing form nothing.

Hi Sirak. I was just at the asus website, and they have a list of mobos that will support scotty. Yours is on the list. Well.. it doesn't say Siraks mobo will support.. but the P4P800 is on the list.

Ill stop laughing when the Windows x86-64 OS gets here for the A64. Until then, try to stay on topic.

Why did you waste your time digging up those links? and that lame retort. Eden could have come up with better material.

Fugger realistically how long can the Xeons 2-4 way systems really last out Vs. the Opteron 2-4 way? It won’t take long before things start to get shaky; brand loyalty only goes so far with the HPC users.

I know Intel sales are still very strong but how long can they run with these ideology of the current Xeon line before AMD starts to chew at it 1, 2 maybe 3 years before its noticeably? That’s unacceptable to Craig Barrett; we both know he runs Intel very aggressively business wise, not like Andy Grove’s technology aggression. But none the less he runs it very controlling.

I would ask the same of your initial response. No hard core figures have come out on any processor sales, yet you turned an obscure reference into a direct contradiction asking for proof.

Are you falling into your old ways? Pump up and defend Intel at all costs.

It took me 10 minutes to grab those links as I had read them before. As for comparing me to Eden, that has nothing to do with my posts. I post what I can and try to provide information rather than FUD Mr FUG.
