Hi everybody. I bought yesterday an AMD Barton 2800+:
AXDA2800DKV4D 2379916230603
AQYHA 0350 TPMW

Its multiplier is locked, and i have done this:
http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/ [...] on-06.html
but when I boot up the computer starts normally but multiplier is still locked at 12.5
What can be the problem?
I am sure I have done it all right!
My mobo is Gigabyte GA-7N400L (F5)
(I used to have a Barton 2600+ and I could change multiplier)
Thanks a lot

Search the forumm... I'm a little bored to always copy/paste a link that I find in an easy Google search...

GOOGLE :
unlock barton multiplier
<A HREF="http://www.google.com/search?q=unlock+barton+multiplier&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8" target="_new">http://www.google.com/search?q=unlock+barton+multiplier&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8</A>

Yes! It gives results... I wish more people to do this before posting

I already saw that guide, but it seems very compicated for me, because of the materials needed and the phisical mod of the CPU. That's why I tried the guide in Tom's Hardware.
I just want to know why it doesn't work for me before trying anything more complicated.
Thanks for replying though

It can't be simple. AMD made our life easier by not locking their CPU. But now, they want to make more money and I understand them. So, they lockes the multiplier to get more people buying HIGH-END chips (2800+/3000+/3200+).

And we can't blame them, they never advertised "unlocked CPU's". You bought the 2500+. You get the 2500+ performance, if you want more, buy the 2800+...

We must now go the Intel way of overclocking, buy good DDR400 or more RAM and increase FSB. Or you must hard mod your chip and void the warranty. You have the choice!

I wish you good O/C!

Thank you very much TheRod.
I understand what you say.
Do you know any reason of why the method doesn't work for me? Do you know someone in the forum that has succesfully unlocked the multiplier that way?
Thanks again

Nope! I don't know anyone who have done it. Maybe I will try it when I will buy my own Barton 2500+. For now, I'm satisfied with my T-Bred B 1800+ (even if it's not stable at 2.0GHz, i run it at about 1.95GHz).

instead of cutting the bridges you could blow them with a 9v battery this wont leave any physical dammage...

Is that possible?

Anybody knows anything?
I have tried the wire trick, and it seems not to work, but I'm not sure because my bios doesn'y have an option to change multiplier, I can only do this by jumpers on the mobo.
But when I set jumpers like for example 9x, it boots as 12.5x as if the wire trick was not applied.
Mi mobo is Gigabyte Ga-7N400-L
Thanks

There was a big discussion regarding this on OCWorkbench and the only way found was the said repainting of L5 bridges. It's not much bother.

AMD Is An Anagram Of MAD, Intel Is An Anagram Of INLET, Cyrix...Ah Who Cares?
