Video Card Upgrade Question.

I have a 2 year old Gateway P4 2.2gig 700xl and want to upgrade the video
card.

Have narrowed it down to two cards I would like, both ATI.

The ATI 9800Pro or the ATI 9600xt. At today's prices it appears the 9800Pro
is going to give the best performance to price ratio.

My concern is the power requirement for the 9600Pro over the 9600xt.

I checked a few of the newer 700xls at work and they have the ATI 9700Pro
with the same basic 250 Watt power supply mine has. All are P4 3.06gig
machines. I tend to think the 9800Pro would be Ok, as the systems at work
are running the Lexington 3 MBs and have two 200 meg Maxtors and the
9700Pro, unless the 9800Pros are requiring that much more current over the
9700Pro?

Before I spend the extra money for the 9800Pro it would be nice to know for
sure the 250 Watt supply can handle it. Or would I be better off with the
lesser 9600xt because of possible system instability with the 9800Pro and
Stock power supply?

Thanks Don

My System.

My last Gateway 700XL can with a P4 3.0 GHz, two Hard Drives, an ATI
9800 Pro and a 250 Watt power supply. You should be OK with the ATI
9800 Pro. I added a third Hard Drive and never had any stability
problems. I have rebuilt this system since, but that is another
story.
