On the same system, same settings, how much faster (in percentage) is a P4 3.0 Ghz than a P4 2.8 ?

7% for any benchmark that scales perfectly with clockspeed; that means almost not a single real world app. Roughly half that, or less in most actual applications. In games, likely close to 0% unless you play in 640x480

very tiny amount of difference between the two.

maybe just 2-5% faster.

so now, let me ask you this....
I have a P4 2.53ghz 533 FSB(no HT) running on asus P4G8X
Now I plan to move to a 3.06 ghz 533FSB (with HT)....since, I dont'have money enough to get a new motherboard that supports 800 FSB together with the processor. So I have to stick to the 533FSB line.
So my question is. Will there be a worthy difference between my 2.53 (no HT) and a 3.06 with HT ?

does my investment worth it?

Neither the HT nor the 20% increase in speed will help that much. Memory is the bottleneck in your current system. Since asus marketed that board as a good ocer, that may be your best route. If you can get your fsb to 158 with your current chip you will have the same speed as the 3.06 but will have much better perf. and that on pc2700.

Wait for Feb 2nd price cut on CPUs from intel.
Maybe youll be able to afford a 2.4c with the mobo after the price cut...

2.4C's are already at the same price level as 2.6C and they're going to stay there.

Got a nice overclocked overvolted system to keep you warm at night? That's great. Guess I'll have to settle for a woman...

It's wiser to wait and replace both CPU+MB later.

No matter when you upgrade, you should get something like Athlon64 3400+ or faster to get some real performance boost.

If I were you, I would hold out for the Prescott or for the A64s to get cheaper. Your processor is hardly weak.
