when i first boot into windows xp pro my xpu usage is pegged at around 60-80% becuase of a program called wscript.exe. what is this file and why is it slowing down my processor for the first minute or so of my windows session?

But what may be slowing down your system is some kind of Virtual Basic Scripting worm. Here is a typical example:
