Hyperthreading does work. However it won't work with Windows 2000. You need Windows XP or Linux.

It work on Win 2K but a bit slower that win XP.
Do you know of any sites that have done a side-by-side comparison? I was under the assumption that Win2k did not support HT at all. My apologies to eklips for the misinformation.

Hmm, at its core Win2000 should support HT. How I understand it is that Win2000 supports dual CPU's, hence HT. Enabling HT in BIOS should sorta "trick" Win2000 into thinking you really have 2 CPU's. If you check CPU Usage under Win2000 with 1 CPU running with HT it will show 2 CPU's running, hence the Bios trick.

Now XP probably is better optimized for SMP or Dual CPU's in general, therefore a HT CPU probably does run better in XP.

Windows 2000 and Windows xp both support SMP, and hyperthreading. However Win 2000 has licensing retrictions problems. If you enable hyperthreading on a dual xeon, your computer will not work under win 2000. win 2000 will recognize the cpu as 4, which is violating licensing restrictions of only 2 cpu per OS.
