Mouse cursor disappears in fullscreen mode

Just lately the cursor on my DELL Inspiron 1510 disappears and the screen locks up so that I can do nothing . This has resulted in switiching off using the power button which I do not like to do.

sounds like a generic program lock-up to me. i've had the mouse disappear on me during these.

you could provide some additional info

-what were you running fullscreen?
-were you multi-tasking when attempting to run?
-do you have an antivirus (which?) and have you done a recent virus scan?
-have you defragmented your hard drive(s) lately? is it (are they) more than 85% full?
-what OS are you running?
