Dell latitude E6500 wont play music through external speakers?

I recently purchased some external speakers Logitech x-230 2.1 2-Piece Dual Drive Speakers with Ported Subwoofer to be exact. I have set them up right, however, when I connect the speakers to my computer the music on my computer stops playing and it doesnt play through the speakers. Any solutions?
