I ordered a mobo combo MSI Kt6 Delta-LSR w/a 2500 barton
chip
They must have been short cause they are sending me the mobo and a 2600 Barton chip..
I this a good thing in the world of OC and Performance
or should I ask for the 2500 back

If they gave the barton 2600 for free thats a ver good thing! 2500 and 2600 are basically the same in OC. But even if they charged extra, probably you just keep it. Sending it back is going to cost $$ for shipping, probably the same amount IF you got charged extra for it.

Also if you got a 2600, why does it 2500 on your sig??!!

This is my idea of a great question. The xp2500+ will usually run on a 200 mhz fsb, with little or no voltage increase, and stock fan. What I would love to know is if the xp2600+ can run when the fsb is raised to 200.
No muss no fuss just change the fs bus.

I'm not 100% sure, just well over 50% sure, do to the overclocking limits of the core type.

I dont think 2600 will play as well as 2500 in the world of OC.
The actual frequency of 2600 is 1.93G(166*11.5),when the FSB goes up to 200, it becomes 2.3G, but the 3200 is 2.2G, you know,At that frequency,CPU may be instability, unless you are fortunate.

i am sure that he can do 11*200 with his athlon.
i can do it with my axp 2700(T-B) without any change to vcore and with 51C average temp.

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb pc3200 (3-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X

so the responces are a dead heat on which I should keep anyone want to break the tie and input their wisdom,
Just starting the OC game so tried and true might be best..
I appreciate all the help.

If multiplier adjustments are available to you then it should be no problem. You can easily run a 200fsb and keep it close to stock speed megahurtz wise.

XP2700+ @ 200x11 here!.

and for the other guy that said you can run the 2500+ @ 3200 speed without more voltage do u have proof of this.
Everyone that I've seen running 2500+ @ 3200+ had to increase the voltage. its still 367mhz overclock!

update
I received the MOBO and Chip today
the amd xp 2600+ ended up being a thorton chip axda2600dkv"3"d 3 = 256cache
and the mother board was a MSI KT6"V"-lsr instead of the KT6DELTA-lsr
is the 2600 chip still better or should I send it back
with the cheaper motherboard

I run my 15 month old xp2500+ @ 12.5 X 178 (2.25 gigs) with stock voltage and fan. 3 of my friends have newer xp2500+, 2 started off at 11 X 200 at stock, the third started at 11 X 180 with stock voltage and fan. He's too chicken to go to 2.2, but he will come around. His temps seldom hit 45. These are the guys who waited too long to get the unlocked multipliers. Another guy who got his last sept runs at 11.5 X 200. He says it's stable at 2.4 but I suspect he's using a little higher voltage even at 2.3 gigs, and the fans in his rig keep his curtains blowing in the breeze.

they are still argue ing trying to tell me the kt6"V" value is better than the kt6 Delta
But Am I right in assumeing that the 2500 barton is a better chip in the long run than the 2600 thorton chip or does the l2 cache size difference really matter

Dont keep the xp2600+. It should overclock to 2.2+ with stock fan but so should the 2500. The 2500 would run at the same speed but have the extra cache. Try to talk them into giving you an nforce board. They are faster and more stable than the via platforms.

FSB400, that is the first thing you want, then consider cpu speed. So in this case an XP2500+ is better than XP2600+ because a lower multiplier will increase your success rate of reaching FSB400 (from FSB333) without CPU maxing out first.
How did Intel's P4 beat Athlon XPs? by raising FSB to 800.
you know the story.

A fine day!

I can run at 2.2 ghz 200 fsb without changing the voltage.
Barton 2500+ @ 2.2ghz 2-2-2-10. Vcore 1.65 Vdimm 2.6.

I will say however, it will get errors only in prime 95. And it wont crash or freeze up, just get's errors. I wasn't having that so i pumped it up to 1.7 for the hell of me seeing other people going up to 1.8. Now i can run prime95 24+ hours. With temps at 42c.

Yea it would be great if i could have this chip, just unlocked. But i'm not liking my case now for cooling.
Super Lanboys 120mm fans need to be a bit stronger, they don't seem to pull enough air.
i'm usually at anywhere from 39c to 46c cpu wise, that's due to my room get's kinda hot at times, so if i just open my window for a bit it lets in the nice cold ass breeze to freeze my comp down.
