I'm currently running an AMD Athlon XP3000+ with a matsonic mobo which has a via KT-400 chipset. Frankly i'm quite appaled at its ability to do anything quickly.

So my question is... hows does a P4 3.2 GHz compare to my AMD 3000+?

at my computer store a 3.2Ghz P4 is a few dollars less than a 3000+ AMD. although to my knowledge the AMD Mobos are slightly cheaper. (this is if the few dollars makes a differnce)

A 3.2C will be faster, but not all that much. If you are "appaled" now, I think something else is is wrong. You may be running a TNT2 videocard or a 4800 rpm harddisk, but the cpu, while not the fastest one out there, is definately not slow.

If for some reason, you do wish to upgrade nevertheless, at least wait until S939 is available, and consider getting a A64 3400+/3700+ for a somewhat noticable speed increase.

Did you do a virus scan lately? Do you have a lot of background processes running? Also, have you installed the latest drivers?
