Printer chime turn off

My printer is connected via USB and for some reason my laptop keeps making a chiming sound as though it just recognized an external device.

If the printer is left connected permanently it shouldn't chime as the computer powers up but may do when the printer is powered. Otherwise, there should not be chiming certainly not continuously as you suggest.

Can only suggest connecting to a different USB socket -- though I don't see why that would help.
