ok my father got a 550mhz p3 (very fast cpu btw) and he overclocked it to 750mhz . But when he overclock it to those speed his ram pass from 256mb to 128mb.

spec
p3 550 i THINK its a coppermine (i am sure it is)

he just increased the multiplier. THAT should not interfere with the ram

You cant adjust the multiplier on P3's (or P4s for that matter). He most likely increased FSB from 100 to 133.

but he should not lose 128mb of ram for this?

Weirder things can happen when you overclock :)
Its quite possible his Ram is PC100, and not able to overclock to 133 MHz. Maybe he has 1 stick of PC100 and 1 of PC133 and the motherboard correctly detects the maximum speed ans disables one stick ? Dunno... try removing a memory stick and see what happens.

IMO, That would be the best explanation.
Try both stick one at the time to see wich one you are 'loosing'.

A PIII 550 overclocked to 133MHz FSB would be 733MHz. 750MHz would require 136.36MHz FSB. In all likelyhood you need better RAM.
