Problems Getting Into Certain Game Rooms

Over the past week or so, I have been having problems getting into
some rooms. I'll click on the room link, a window will flash briefly,
then close up (before I have a chance to read it)

The Zone Help files say something about a damaged registry entry under
the zone nickname. I have tried removing it. It will work for a bit,
but then exhibit the same behavior.

I have never had a problem with this prior to last week. Any
suggestions from here?

Look for "Rooms Flash But Don't Open using Windows XP" here:

I've had the same problem, I've used the registry clearing script from the
above UTL, but now any time I try to enter a room on the second try, I get
the flashing room window and it won't open. This is especially irritating,
I shoulnd't have to clear the registry every time I want to reenter a room.
Running WindowsXP, SP1.

Any other suggestions?

The same link has a suggested permanent fix where you remove the network
components, then reinstall.

Here are some results of a Google search:

This suggests adware is causing the problem.
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&frame=right&th=9c60cf75c5d93a00&seekm=1d31601c42332%24104a7ab0%24a401280a%40phx.gbl#link2

This suggests that a popup ad stopper can be the problem.

I have the very same problem as Ben - the room flashing
upon trying to enter. The problem began around the same
time I installed a new video card. I wrongly assumed that
the problem could be the new video card's handling of
full rooms. I quickly discarded that idea. When I got fed
up enough to put the old video card back in the problem
persisted.
I checked into some forums - tried all that I could find,
including Nibbler's fix, uninstall zone (right down to
the "heartbeat" entries).
I tried uninstalling my Realtek ethernet card and
reinstalling. I keep reloading the old drivers though as
opposed to being able to update to new drivers available
from the Realtek site. So I haven't been totally
successful in uninstalling my network card and
reinstalling "clean".
Contrary to the findings from Google I run no extras for
adware etc so that doesn't come into consideration on my
system. I find using the firewall provided by XP to be
sufficient without adding any extras.
I think there is some change by MSN (mid-May) that has
created this problem. I only hope they are looking for a
solution.
Any new suggestions would be welcome. Combined with the
existing zone issues it's a real headache to try and play
a game of Spades.

Have you tried creating a new user with administrator rights? That
might be less of a hassle than other Band-Aid cures.

The rooms may not flash open then close when you log into Windows as the
new user.
