2.8E OCed to 3.3

HardOCP OCed Scotty to 3.3 on air cooled. 3.6 with water. But still to much heat.

It was not uncommon for us to see capacitors at 235F.

Ouch! I guess that makes the overclocking of Prescotts on current mobos a distant possibility!

I mostly worry what long term effects will be; even when not overclocked. I trust intel to test its own gear, and presume the cpu will at least outlive the warranty period , but for motherboards.. this just can't be good.

Anyone with more knowledge on electronics care to comment ? Is it okay to have capacitors running at such high temps ?

The new Grantsdale chipset Mobos should help with the heat.

one solution it to place the cpu in a sealed glass case with aircond cooling and use external removable devices.
Anyone into this project?

Or you could just supply it with imported dried Antarctic air at about 2 cubic feet/second.
