First, we need to know more about you and what you want to do with your system?
Do you have a limited budget?
Will you play games a lot with your PC?
Do you do video encoding or other specialised software?
Currently, if you play to play games and do everyday stuff the Athlon 64 3000+ is a great performer for the price. But, if you do a lot of video/audio encoding (Mp3, DivX) you will get better performance with a P4C based system.
But, give us more details and we will be pleased to help you!
P4 is maybe slichtly better then XP, but it cost more.
XP overclocks also nice, just as the P4.
But Athlon64 is an other story )
