"Gelsinger will say that the biggest challenge Intel faces is power, both delivering it, and dissipating it."

No kidding.. does this not sound like the next prescott stepping will not have solved it ? Anyway, Pat is probably wrong, since Kanavit says its not a problem.

"Performance at any price is history, he will say, while so called valued performance at lower cost is the future."

Doh. Intel dropping out of the performance race ?

"But to meet these goals, Intel needs to develop low power process technology, high performance circuits, low power multithreading architecture, special purpose hardware, and an OS and applications designed for low power."

An OS and aps designed for low power ?? Really, that is pretty amazing, what does he mean by this ? Its one thing to shift performance problems to the developpers (like forcing them to use 23 different SIMD instructionsets, recompiling and optimizing for every new cpu family, create multithreaded apps to solve single threaded problems); now intel wants to shift the power consumption problem to the software guys as well ? How ??
