regedit wont start

When trying to run regedit, nothing happens, just this black screen comes
up, and thats it....

any ideas?

This happened with my grandad's computer, turned out he had like 30
something viruses

Start|Run|type in:"C:\Windows\Regedit.exe"(without quotes)|ok

Will msconfig run or task manager, ctrl-alt-del? If neither of these
run then it's a virus.
