I read that, and doesnt make much sense. intel announced prescott with IAAIAIA32E-not64 would be available this summer.. so I am confused. Maybe the Reg got Longhorn mixed up with "win XP for extended IA32e-notAM64" ? Or maybe we will only see a 64 bit Xeon and a P4EE extreme or something this year ? Not sure..

No ..it was...Xeon IA32e...

Q3: Which Intel processors support 64-bit extension technology and when will they be available?
A3: On February 17th, 2004, Intel announced the company will add 64-bit extension technology to its IA-32 processors code named Nocona (future Intel® Xeon™ processor for dual processing servers and workstations), Potomac (future Intel Xeon processor MP for multi-processing servers) and Prescott (future product for uni-processor servers and workstations). This was an initial technology disclosure. Intel will provide additional details as the introductions of these various products approach.

desktop version ws surposed to be next year with tejas, but...the link says differently.

Since when is prescott a server chip ? The Xeonized Prescott is called Nocona, not ?

Sure sounds like a 64 bit P4 Extreme to me. If so, poor intel. they will be hyping 64 bit even if they don't want to, while at same time, hardly selling any 64 bit desktops. This will make cheap A64's look *really* good for another year, at least, if I'm right.

It never said anything about Intel waiting on 64-bit Celerons!

Or maybe Intel knows something about Longhorn that the rest of us don't (i.e., release date). I don't know how much I would believe it, seems like what they wrote was pure speculation that Intel won't release IA-32e CPUs until a 64-bit Windows is released--did Intel even allude to that?!

Again, time will tell.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

No, it was written as a direct quote, definately not speculation. Either they misunderstood, or intel didnt make themselves clear... or.. my prediction post may still come true :)
