i gave my good ol` tbird950 to my brother. i happened to get a c3 samuel 667 system, the microATX typed motherboard with CPU, VGA, LAN all included. i was curious about its slow performance, so i decided to use it for a month or so. i just hope that it`s good enough for web serfing and word processing.

this my be the last post i write with my tbird950. my new system`s spec is :

c3 667
via ple133t
trident blade 3D
256mb pc133 ram (8mb chared with the VGA)
15GB WD 5400rpm HDD
realtek 8100 LAN
DVD-ROM

a question by the way. how can i get a win98 driver for Trident Blade 3D and realtek 8100 LAN?

another question...will the c3 be good enough for DVD? i used to watch DVDs on my pld pentium2 350, but sandra benchmark shows that the c3 667 is slower than the p2 350.

T-bird 950 to C3 (samuel) 667! Big downgrade, no doubt!

This CPU may be good enough for DVD, with all extra adjustments disabled and no multichannel audio.

Search a bit with google to find your required driver.

that might mean that i need a new VGA with DVD acceleration. i heard that ATI had an old PCI version of that.

my mobo has no AGP, only 3 PCI slots. the Blade 3D is an integrated.

i wonder if the SIS305 has DVD acceleration. i should post this on the VGA forum i guess...

You have to realise that any k6 cpu above 400mhz is faster than what you currently have. I almost feel bad for you...should i donate my old piii 700 to you? nah

The good thing is that you can now cool your cpu with a quarter...

I would definitly look into overclocking, does that cpu run a 133mhz fsb, or is it 66?

I don't think C3 overclocks well. And it's not Ezra-T or later core, so it may not be 0.13µ.

Moreover the mobo is PLE133T garbage.

dude, all i need is word processing and internet serfing. this c3 will still be a bit slow with that, but what the heck, i`ll just practice my patience.

If you really need a silent system, why not try underclock?
Like an AXP3200+ at 1100mhz? So you can always switch back to 2200mhz when needed.

i think that the 1100 barton will still need a fan....maybe a fan that may run at a very low speed, but still it`s a fan.

i`m planning an upgrade sometime this fall, anyway. i`m hoping for a multiplier unlocked barton or tbred(both are extremely hard to get in korea), an sis746 or 748 or so, and 512MB of DDR ram. a fast HDD won`t hurt either.
