Upgrade Power Supply

I just got of chat with GW sales as to upgrading my power supply they
say no way 250 max.

I have a P4 1.9Mhz
I have added 80GB, 300GB, 120GB, 1 TDK CDRW 1 TDK DVDRW 1 controller
card plus numerous USB devices, Printer, Web Cam, APC BackUp 500, Palm,
USB 8 Hub, 128MB graphics card, may be looking at adding scanner and
replacing some of the HD.

Ron,

Two choices:

1. Replace the stock Gateway 250w power supply with one of larger wattage, if
you can find one with the same physical dimensions

2. Transplant the guts of your Gateway into a new chassis with a power supply of
ample wattage, say 350w, or even 400w... Ben Myers

I wouldn't worry about power at all. Most of the USB devices draw little or
no power through the USB port, and if the system is working as is, replacing
drives won't strain anything unless you plan to install 15K SCSI units.

Ben,

That is funny because they told me if I did that it would fry the system
of course voiding the warranty which expires in December any way. Know
what they wanted it me to buy another system. But I might think about
that as I have about 3 hard drive laying around one of them a 120GB so
maybe you you could point me in the right direction to cases and power
supplies that might be compatible with my GW system.

Well, whoever told you that you would fry the system with a larger power supply
does not understand computer technology, to put it kindly and diplomatically.
To put it another way, that person is so full of manure, it is spouting from his
