I just got my first DVD burner, myself... I bought the Liteon 16 x dual layer.. I haven't had time to play with it... I had way to much to put on a CD, so I installed the new DVD, burnt the backup all on 1 disc.. Loaded in the new board, & let it read everything back in. It was great for that, Steam alone was a 3 gig backup....

I know nothing about the media... I used one of the disc's that came with the unit... If you find out what's good, like you say, let me know... I'll take your advice, for sure!!!

I got mine for data... I've got 50 discs full of photos.. I'm going whittle that stack down by putting all of that on DVD's....

Hell, the wife still uses the VCR.... She can't time shift on DVD, so she says to hell with them... Me, I don't watch many movies, so it doesn't matter... [shrug]

As cheap as DVD's have gotten, I feel soon CD's will be a thing of the past.... There's no reason to buy a CDRW, anymore...

You have a 1633 liteon, I would suggest flashing it to a 1655, the instructions and info can be found <A HREF="http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html" target="_new">here</A>
This will give you faster speeds for -DVD. 16x instead of 8x.
Do a google and see what you think first. the patcher on the page I linked to wil let you choose what speed you can write to what discs at. Obviously if you tell the drive to write @16x to a cheap 4x dics you will get errors, but tell it to write 16X to a half decent 8x disc and you will find some brands are more than capable. Plenty of info out there for those who like to play.
