Toms hardware optical drive

Hello,
my optical drive stopped working a few days ago after i got my computer fixed it seemed to have happened after i inserted a flash drive sandisk cruzer 16gb but that my be a coincidence i mean it literally stopped working i cant open my optical drive the light on the optical drive isnt on and there is no trace of it on my computer not in device manager my computer i tried system restore it didnt work again i did just get it fix is it disconnected? my computer is a hp laptop windows 7 home premium

  1. if there is no light on the drive itself, check to see if it is disconnected.
  2. Remove the drive and plug it back in again, it may do the trick. You might have to remove a screw to remove the drive depending on the model. You can google for:

    [model of laptop] service manual

    to find how to pull it out. If that doesn't work, you're probably looking at a new drive.
  3. Is the drive detected by the BIOS? If it is then it is a Windows problem if not then you have a hardware problem.
  4. how do i look at the bios will this cause any problems?
