Rooms Flashing

I'm wondering if there is anything new on the rooms
flashing - in particular spades - when you hit the room
link a second time after being unsuccessful the first? Or
is the only option still to clear the registry with
Nibbles little fix?
It seems to me Microsoft has made some change that has
created this problem. It is new and annoying.
The reinstallation of the network drivers is not the
answer. That does absolutely nothing.

It might help to open the Device Manager and remove the NIC, Ethernet
card, or modem devices. To try to cover all bases, if you can't get
back online because the device isn't found after rebooting, run System
Restore. With WinME and WinXP you can run System Restore and select an
entry point listed on a date before the problem first occurred.

Thank you Elmo but I have done all those things. I have
removed the network driver and the card. (I stopped short
of physically removing the card - I didn't think that was
necessary.) I have reinstalled the driver to no avail.
The problem remains.
I installed XP Pro on this system at least a year ago. I
spend more hours than I should gaming. It is not logical
to think that suddenly something in my system is causing
the problem. Microsoft has made some change in delivery
and in doing so has created this problem for me and for
others. It would be very nice and much appreciated if
they would fix the problem or at least come up with a
definitive answer.
So for ~ a month now I play by running the room reset
patch offered by Nibbles just about every time I want in
a room. That's not exactly standing behind your product
if you ask me. If that patch was produced in Feb surely
something more comprehensive should be available by now.
And while the "reset" option removes the rooms from the
registry it creates other little instabilities.

I was having the same room flashing problem in Backgammon, but I unistalled
the zone completely, did the registry reset room thing, then reinstalled the
Zone from scratch. Since then I haven't had any problems. (WinXP, SP1). I
never bothered with the NIC card uninstall thing.

I've done all that too Gregg. So how come my didn't
fix! How much do you play? Enough so that it would have
started up again? I unloaded the zone right down to
deleting a conflict folder from dos. And still really no
change. I wonder what the difference is?

I had it crop up one more time again. It really is the Zone's problem (the
way it logs your previous room entry history in the registry), and it
doesn't look like there is a reliable fix on the client side. Just have the
shortcut to the room clear registry hack handy, I guess.

The only problem with using that nifty little script is
that it clears the "zone client" out completely. So
friends list has to re-establish itself. (And right now
that appears to be a very onerous task for the zone
software to handle.)
So in reality it is not a "room" reset. It is a complete
removal of zone activity as far as HKLM in the registry
goes.
