IT WAS A TYPO.

They corrected it now. There's no fixed release month for FX-55

I'll be the happiest man alive if one day we see a 3ghz AMD. :)

45.5k mark? 85 dollars went a long way. So did that extra 15 dollars for cooling my video card.

You should see it in 2005.

However, I'll be happy if they go for dual core after they start using 90nm process.

I'd like to see some benchmarks. 3Ghz AXP vs. 5Ghz P4e.

Any bets on who will win?

A long long time ago, but I can still remember, how that music used to make me smile... <A HREF="http://www.nexus.hu/zonix/DIGGER.MID" target="_new"><b><font color=blue>Digger rulz</font color=blue></b></A>

The guy who broke 30k landmark in 3DMark2001SE used 3.0 GHz A64-FX (overclocked)

Wow, a socket change suddenly gives more performance. 100 more PR points, half the cache, new socket= more performance. I'm baffled. Is this the new style AMD era of weird marketting?

just a bit more then half the cache but twice the theortical bandwidth (180% practicly based on sisoft A63 3100Mb/s Opteron 5500+Mb/s) plus we get faster hypertransport and other minor architectural changes AMD said to be implementing in K8 every 6 months. and we also might get SSE3 which AMD said will apper on K8 sometime...

on the down side - AMD probably delayed 90nm parts to Q1 05' so basicly it *needed* a 3800+ rating on 0.13nm.

I'd bet the reason is a mixture of both. I guess we'll have to wait for the benchmarks to decide if the rating reflects the chips preformance...

Do you have a link of that ?
I was thinking next month 90 nano production would start, could be wrong ofcourse...

That's what I thought...I know Troy (90nm 2xx Opteron) was supposed to come this summer and AMD has not taken back that statement yet.

According to anandtech roadmap the 2.6 Ghz athlon 64 would laucnh on Q1 05' this is obvously a 90nm chip.
a limited FX55 could be launched earlier - but it might be from cheery picked 0.13 or limited 0.09 producton. so in any case mass 90 products from AMD is coming Q1 05'.

PROVE it...you're just speculating.

Who says 2.6GHz is the first chip to go to 90nm?? AMD should move to 90nm as soon as possible to save money! Last I checked, too, Troy isn't on that roadmap...do you have any explanation for it going to 90nm 6months before any other AMD CPU (other than the 8xx series, forget the name).

Yes, AMD shoud move to 90nm as soon as possible. Its not probable that its main chip would move to 90nm 6 mounths after AMD has the abilty to produce it.
90nm is for Q1, perhapes some limited 90nm products would launch Q4 or cherry picked 0.13 2.6Ghz devices would launch. but the process is certintly delayed.

WHERE is your proof that it is delayed EVEN BY A DAY?! Do you work for AMD??

AMD sampled 90nm Opterons a few months back with power consumption at normal speeds being a little more than half of the 130nm version (40W, IIRC)--they are certainly capable of pulling out a mass production 90nm from looks of it (especially in comparison to Intel's flop a.k.a., Prescott). From all evidence, Troy, 8xx and even 1xx are still on track for a dieshrink this Q2 (or early Q3, likely depending on Xeon CT).

Again, where is your evidence that there is any sort of delay?!

ALL you have posted here are rumers that are at best not officily aknowledged by AMD and at worst are made up. all AMD officly said and showed is that it has 90nm working versions of Hammer... and AMD had working 0.13 hammer parts more then a year before it intreduced it.

NOW, the roadmap anadtech posted IS offical amd information. now - Take (offical) reallity Add the new information and get the Probable answer - now what your doing with that equasion is adding HOPE which I also tended to do for years. but what I learned over the years is that hope has no place in the semiconductor indestry.

bottom line - A64 on 90nm for Q1 05' means its VERY unlikly to see any 90nm products from AMD before mid Q4. and thats the reallity.

forgive me for my mediocare english...

AMD has only one fab, therefore it converts a lot faster than intel, that needs to convert and re-equip god knows how many fabs. AMD typically switches to a new process ~6 months after intel, but converts a lot faster.

90nm chips should be available from AMD in volume this summer, although of course the bulk of the *sales* will be 130nm until at least the end of the year. The same will apply to intel btw. But if you want a 90nm A64 chip, you'll be able to one from AMD around july/august if nothing goes dramatically wrong.

This is gonna be one event I'm looking forward to. Will show whether the "pattern of fab conversion" over time will be maintained and AMD this time will succeed better. I will be wrong of course, and darn it, once more will have to bang my head on the wall as promised.
